There are many different sides to painting, and being an artist. I like to use many different kind of painting. I love the change in techniques and I don’t like doing the same thing all the time. Still sometimes I end up getting stuck in a phase and I find myself only doing one type of painting. Don’t ge me wrong here, I love digging into that ONE THING sometimes but what I don’t like about it is how easy it is to get stuck in a corner. I can even become a little afraid of getting out of the corner, and that is a sure sign that it’s high time for a break-out!
Most of my painting skill are based in drawing and therefore I often take to the pencil when I need to rest from colors. It happens that I get over stimulated by color, I really love color, but sometimes it can just be too much. Taking a colour break and just keep pencil for a while, can really help restore my inspiration and save me from the overwhelm. After one or three such works, the longing for colors will usually be back and then it’s all about colour again.
Drawing and sketching with only a pencil is also a very easy way to always be ready to practice. I always try to bring my paper and pen wherever I go or whatever I do. New ideas may appear that I want to sketch down, or I’m on a break and I can fit in some time to practice some drawing techniques. Training is also useful for an artist. Especially when it comes to training the muscles of creativity!
